And why would they do that?
America and all the western world is their biggest customer.
They don't need to 'take over', they already have.
And even if they did, so what. Human history is a constant rise and fall of nations. We should not be so naive as to think that the way of life we have and the current balance of powers will never change.

i noted on another thread the mention of 'smurfs' and a certain jws dismissiveness of the matter.
which got me to thinking as tonights episode of southpark is about the student councel wanting to kill smurfs..... does anyone remember this one that did the rounds here in my part of oz:.
a child took a stuffed toy smurf to the meeting as a cuddle toy and partway through the meeting the smurf got down from the chair, declared it was tired of listening to this rubbish and walked out of the hall!.
the problem with these urban fears is that since they seem to spew from the mouths of COs and the like, they are never in writing and therefore, according to JW apologists like the ones here now, must be horrible apostate lies from Satan.
oz
have you ever heard a witness say something like "why do apostates have to keep talking about the wts/jw faith?
why don't they just go on with their lives?
if they've found something better, why don't they just focus on that instead of us?
exactly!
its not like we just changed job , changed towns or something...
this religion swallowed 37 years of my life and well, yes, i too am going to need to talk a LOT about my new journey.
apologists suck it up or go away.

oooooooooooo!
I remember how we all were sooo convinced that satan possesed toys like that!
(I just told the wife about this one and other JW urban myths about demon possesed furniture and she cracked up! Who's the pot smoking idiot that dreams that up!)

well, some of you know that i have a 16 year old son who lives with his jw mother.
she has already mastered the art of guilt control on him.
i am most anxious that he not get baptized at all or at least unless he has really understood the whole truth, not just the watchtower truth.
7 june 2010
My son chose to go home this saturday afternoon, thats ok, i fought for him to have a choice and i am glad to see him use it. Among the reasons were that he had mike duty at the meeting... i couldn't help myself and dropped a remark about looking down girls tops! He just went 'not with their dads next to them!'
Anyway, that gave my wife and i a whole extra day just with my daughter. On a drive into the country we had a discussion on choices, and in particular how important it was to make informed choices. She seemed to understand well the concept of needing information from many sources in order to do this.
We talked about things such as choices in career and marriage mate. Even at thirteen, i feel she is being groomed for the life of subserviant mother. She has switched from wanting to go to art school to being a child care worker (not that there is anything wrong with that!) I realize of course that at her age she will likely change her mind many times. But i want her to always know that she has choices! My wife is a classic example of a woman who is not in subjection to me, we used her example of independance both financial and emotional. Talked about how a couple does not need one to be the 'boss' or the 'head of the household', rather a couple are fully capable of making joint decisions, be together and still maintain thier own independance in so many ways.
I was able to use a sister of mine and myself as examples of people who grew up isolated from knowing anything about the world or life and thus didnt actually make a choice, rather did what we thought we were supposed to do. My sister actually got baptised so she could marry as she was taught that this was the only way a girl could leave home.
It was a lovely talk!

now that i have secured more time with my children and i have established my interest in the religious side of their lives i wonder what is best next.. what sort of material is best to use to get them thinking?
i want to get them thinking.. what sort of real truths matter to teens in the jws these days?.
i know that they dont beleive everything, such as shunning and that worldly people are all bad.
taking all this on board!
the boy is 16 and definatly earning money, social life and girlfriend are real important.
I have been frequently (but not too heavy) making reference to financial security by laying up real estate for future provision for family and retirement. As well as not allowing anybody inc JWs from telling him who he can and cannot see.
i'll check this again soon!

What sort of material is best to use to get them thinking? I will not TELL them much at all. I want to get THEM THINKING.

I know that they dont beleive everything, such as shunning and that worldly people are all bad. But i know that is not enough to stop them getting sucked in. My son is already doing the mikes... grooming him to 'reach out'. They are now very well aware of the reality of shunning.
any ideas? Any teens on here?

started a new topic b/c i didn't want to threadjack another ongoing pointless debate.
:) (isn't it interesting how the apologists all come out around dc time?).
i have seen that statement made over and over again by jws about disfellowshipping.
Yes they can claim on technicality that those getting baptised know already the facts about disfellowshipping. It is in the publications. The watchtower mainly, which a good many JWs seem to sleep thru either literally or figurativly.
what i find most distasteful is the fact that the organized to do jehovahs will only talks very briefly about disfellowshipping and disassociation. The paragraph that deals with D/F only remarks on the issue of shunning with the words about the announcement; ''this will alert faithful members of the congregation to stop associating with that person''. No explanation of that is given.
only one review question deals with the subject and the answer is a quote of 1 cor5:9-13. nowhere is the term ''quit mixing in company...'' is not explained at all.
The back of the book admonishes an elder to spend an 'hour or so' making sure the person qualifies. Hardly enough time considering the gravity of a dedication and baptism.Even worse and neglectful if it is a minor to be baptised.
I make a statement that i for one have no problem with the practice of disfellowshipping. Many sorts of organizations expel members for rule breaches. It is the practice of shunning that i take issue with.
At no time does this book, which is the text book studied leading to baptism touch on the realities of shunning. Yet this is the one book that should. No where is it mentioned how it affects families. How mothers will shun children. How sons will shun parents and siblings.
That is why i have already talked about this with my children. Soon i will also show them watchtowers that spell out the practice in no uncertain terms. There is no way they are baptizing my kids without them knowing accuratly what it means.
Shame on the WT Soc for the gloss job they do in order to get members
i've been watching the new dvd and it is a bull fest about russell.
i haven't even gotten half way and they already excluded one very important bit of information.
you'll recall that russell "lost" his faith and "turning away from church creeds and searching for truth, russell examined some leading oriental religions, only to find these unsatisfying".
me too please! pm me if you need an email address or anything...
thanks in advance
